Hello everyone and welcome.

Today, it is  the first time that a bunch of us got to try out those brand new courts at Paggi Square Park . When Rick and I saw them for the first time a few days earlier,  we were like two little kids getting brand new toys.   About two year ago a received a phone call to help understand how a petanque park should be designed  and to be honest I didn’t believe the project will happen. But now it is in  place. And it is gorgeous!  It is  for sure designed with Petanque in mind. The new park is scheduled to open on Saturday June first at the Mueller community in northeast Austin, at 10 am at 2000 Robert Browning Street. Today we had the perfect timing to go there and practice   because we got the chance to meet the planner of the project, Jana McCann and to thank her for the promoting of the game with such a beautiful setting.
Slated for one-third of an acre, Paggi Square is being designed for a range of activities, including a large area that can provide 8 courts of  Pétanque. The park is named after Michael Paggi, a prominent 19th-century local businessman who founded the Paggi Carriage Shop in 1875 at 421 E. Sixth Street. The Heart of Texas petanque club  is so very excited about the new location  “Having a centrally located pétanque court is greatly appreciated and needed in Austin as the sport becomes increasingly popular,” said Matt Curtis, a aide to Mayor Leffingwell, who is expected to come and through the opening boule. We will keep you posted for the new schedule soon.
