HOT NEWS! PAGGI SQUARE PARK, AUSTIN TX.

Hello everyone and welcome.

About two years  and half ago, I was approached by the planner of the project, Jana McCann, she wanted to support HOT and the game of petanque that is growing in Austin. Jana wanted to built  courts within the new community,  after seeing us play at the Hangar and other location.  So we had a conversation about what the feel of a petanque court should be and what type of ground be best for a location like Paggi Square.  I didn’t talk to her for all the years of construction and she called me  back one day and said ” the courts are ready come and check it out”.  When I first saw them I could not believe it , Jana did such a beautiful job, it was like some courts in the south of France, Provence.  It is large enough to play up to 4 games at once.   In June 2013, Mayor Lee Leffingwell came to officially open the courts and gave a speech about supporting  the game of petanque and even did through a few boules.  But it wasn’t until today that those courts started to really kick in.  Only 4 months later because of HOT giving free petanque lessons every Saturday’s morning to the local community.  They started to be interested and took the game at heart, and in no time, they bought their own balls and started to practice big time.  They even started to bring in lights on Friday nights and play sometime until 2am.  All this would not have happened if it wasn’t for talented members who dedicated  their time to teach the game.  So I like to recognize their efforts, the teachers representing HOT: Christophe Chambers, Micheal Hillis, Jim Schwobel.  Thank you for your dedication, we can surely witness quality results.  This past Friday night players got together and had a fabulous time…! IMG_4081IMG_4080IMG_4083IMG_4084IMG_4085IMG_4078IMG_4082
